missing my seasonal markers

no monarchs or canadian geese
pass as harbingers through flander's fields;
still, two seeds did persephone eat
and so to her husband she must yield.

i saw my breath on this morning's air
(just for a second, only a wisp);
a reminder it's time to prepare
for nights gone cold and mornings frost-crisp.
