heard while listening...

the lulling lap and trickle
       of water washing the shore;
the moon, a maudlin sickle,
       hiding what she holds in store.
the words so gently tickle;
       to ignore them: a grim score.

sea and sky and muse:
flames unto the poet's moth,
candles to his flame.
