the cinquain refrain, not to be confused with the cinquain, is a form i devised after playing with refrain forms like the monotetra and the trijan refrain.
here is the rundown:

- there are 5 lines per stanza (no minimum or limit to the number of stanzas)

- there are eight syllables per line.

- lines 1,2, and 3 rhyme with one another

- lines 4 and 5 rhyme with one another

- there is an internal rhyme concerning the first 4 syllables of lines 2 and 3: they must be phrases that rhyme with one another. they must also rhyme with line 4.

- the first four syllables of lines 2 and 3 are refrained, in order, to create line 5.

in the template below, the numbers indicate the number of syllables per line, and the uppercase letters in parentheses indicate the rhymes. this pattern is repeated for each stanza, though it is not necessary to use the same rhymes in each stanza.

8 (A)
4 (B) 4 (A) (for a total of 8 sylls)
4 (B) 4 (A) (for a total of 8 sylls)
8 (B)
4 (B) 4 (B) (refrains from lines 2 and 3, in order, for a total of 8 sylls)

and here is an example:

cinquain refrain

my thinking 'bout forms poetic,
i must admit, is eclectic.
it gives me fits apoplectic
to feel bound up 'bout matters writ:
i must admit, it gives me fits.

Right of the bat it looks intricate, has some though put into it, and reflects a our life in a philosophical way. As Cinquain isn't that widely popular format such as quatrain, sonnets, and etcetera. As of vision; it is appealing towards(In Laymen Terms<img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/> poetry nerds. Visually it does not seem that complex, but when it comes to carving your ideas in the beech of this format, it really shows the intricacy of this technique. In a philosophical way as said earlier, It shows the importance of technique of the craft. The way a poet can express his emotions, while keeping the classics to the core, is something quite affectionate. You kept it quite original, and it doesn't seems like it was something anew. It flows like an old river, if you will. Although, I am just a hobbyist, and I have little to no knowledge of this craft. I still find it quite appealing.
